Background
We want to make St Elisabeth’s Church easily accessible to all. With this in mind, we commissioned an architect to draw up plans to construct a permanent ‘access ramp’ at the main entrance to the church. This will replace the current temporary, portable ramps that are quite steep, heavy and cumbersome for people to move, and are also damaging the steps and tiles in the entrance.
Who will benefit from the ramp?
The ramp will help people of all ages access the church to attend one of our services or one of the many community groups that are based in our beautiful building.
The access ramp will benefit lots of people including those:
- In wheelchairs
- With youngsters in push chairs
- With walking frames with a range of mobility problems
- And many more
What will it cost?
The cost of making any alterations to a Grade 1 listed building is high. However, at St Elisabeth’s we are determined to overcome this barrier in order that the church can be open and easily accessible to all who want to visit, whatever the reason for that visit.
The cost to have the plans drawn up, submitted and approved was in the region of £1800.00. This money has already been paid. Thank you to all who helped with this.
The quote for the actual works is £14,481.00.
We are applying for grants to cover most of the cost; however we need to raise the first 11% ourselves. We also need a contingency of money (recommended at 10% of the cost of the building work) in case anything unexpected is discovered when the work commences. This means that we are looking to raise a total of £3,041.00.
Fundraising plans
We started fundraising at our recent Diamond Jubilee Celebration and have several activities planned over the coming weeks and months. Keep an eye on this notice board and our website for full details.
If you have any ideas for fundraising, please speak to Deb or Steve Fawcett in the first instance.
Totals raised
We will display the amounts raised here and also on the website so you can watch us progress towards our target.
With your support and the support of our community, we can reach this target.
NB if the access ramp appeal should exceed the target amount, or the contingency should not be needed, the excess money will be put into a ‘general fund’ which will be used in the future when funds are needed for something else at St Elisabeth’s (subject to agreement by the PCC).
